Go ahead and ask Matt Hoggatt about what kind of year he had in 2005 and you’re sure to hear a long but interesting story. That year at just 27 years old, the former soldier in the Army Band had grown tired of playing brass instruments and decided to pickup a guitar and start writing songs. It’s also the year hurricane Katrina washed ashore and forced him to move from his storm damaged apartment in south Mississippi. Despite the turmoil that followed in hurricane Katrina’s wake, Matt’s music thrived. In 2008, Matt released his first album “Live From The Homestead,” which featured eleven of Matt’s first original songs. Since then, he has continued to write songs and play gigs between the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and Nashville, Tennessee including the Bluebird Café. Matt’s music has been featured on local television commercials, radio shows and internet radio. Not only is Matt the regional coordinator for the Nashville Songwriters Association MS Gulf Coast chapter, but he is also married with three children and works full time as a detective for his local police department. Hi Matt! I'm glad that you decided to join GIJAMS. I still can't "When War Wasn't War" out of my head. That is a phenominal tune! - Shawn
