RIC ULSKY

I’m a songwriter and keyboard player – including my favorite the Hammond B3.

Before I went into the service I was going to college for a music degree and playing in a top band in the Pacific Northwest, as well as with such artists as “The New Beats” and Ian Whitcomb.

In 1966 I volunteered for the Army and served for 3 years including 1 tour in Vietnam.

After basic training in early 1967, I entered the All Army Entertainment Contest and won First Prize in the Instrumental Division playing “Taste Of Honey”, backed up by the Righteous Brothers Orchestra. Following this, I left on my "Asian Vacation".

After leaving the service in 1969 I joined The City Zoo . In 1971 while living in the “Band House”, I found myself enrolled at Shoreline Community College, playing in the stage band, working with The Dee Daniels Band and also trying to put together my own group.

From 1969 to 1976 I worked with several bands including The Association and a Las Vegas show band that was managed by Wayne Newton called Friends Of The Family .

In 1974 I started my own group Epicentre which was a funk-rock band in the style of Tower Of Power. By The late ‘70’s Epicentre was at the top of the Northwest Rhythm & Blues music scene.

Seeking higher goals, I moved to Los Angeles and went on the road from 1976 to 1978 with The Association

During 1978-79 I rejoined Epicentre and spent part of a year in the studio on salary with Stevie Wonder .

From 1980 to 1985 I went back to work with The Association appearing on numerous TV shows such as The 25th Anniversary Show of American Bandstand, Merv Griffin, Tom Snyder and Solid Gold . During this period, I toured the world several times.

By the mid ‘80s I established myself in the LA music scene as a studio musician, sideman and recording engineer. Since 1985 I have been with Chuck Berry on many National and International Tours as his piano player.

In 1995, my mother’s death and father’s bad heart prompted my move back to Seattle occasionally going out on the road with Chuck Berry, as well as playing keys for the Blues Power Review...a Northwest Blues Bros. cover band. This band has been together for many, many years and is the leader in their industry. Following my father's death , my wife and I moved to Las Vegas, NV.

I am currently working in Las Vegas at such places as The House Of Blues, BB King’s and many other venues and casinos. The primary band that I play with at this time is the Cordle-Scott Band. Some of the people I’m currently recording for include such artists as Mickey Thomas (from Jefferson Starship) and Ainsely Dunbar as well as producer Tim Tucker. I am writing with Joe Esposito . Joe, you may know, is the author of such great hits as Bad Girls (Donna Summers), the theme to the Karate Kid movie, and many other great songs. I feel honored to be able to call him my writing partner. The songs on this web site are products of our joint writing. We continue to strive for more success with our songs.

One thing I must say.....Their are many people who support the troops. They put bumper stickers on their cars and pins in their lapels. They are the crowd who will never forget all that you've done for our country. But there are few who stand out from that crowd and do more. Denny Randell and Biddy Schippers are two wonderful people who stand away from the crowd, doing so much more. Their desire to help in a way they know, in a way they can....all who have served, are serving, or will serve , has led to this web site. GI jams. Their compassion and caring stands as a sign of thanks for all of us. Please take advantage of this web site, I did. Its a wonderful way for you to get your music out their....and for everyone to be able to hear it....hear it now - not later. GI jams has my vote for website of Honor. Ric Ulsky
